Cinderella may not have had a great relationship with her sisters but that hasn’t stopped Disney from hitting up cult knitwear label Sister by Sibling to design a Cinderella-inspired dress. The only catch is, Sibling weren’t inspired by Cinderelly, but her rodent friends Jaq, Gus and Mary.
A dream commission for the brand, which is run by Sid Bryan, Joe Bates and Cozette McCreery, the London-based trio saw themselves in each of the mice. “Sister by Sibling immediately felt an affinity with the three mice within the story: friendly, helpful with an inner strength and a familiar easy-going humour,” they said in a statement. “With the help of Jaq (Sid), Gus (Joe), and Mary (Cozette), Cinderella will go to the ball and this ball will be rockin’!”
It’s a fitting analogy given that Jaq, Gus and Mary were themselves fledgling designers: after all, they were responsible for creating Cindy’s pink frock (which I’ve always preferred to her blue one). But while Cinderella got to go to the ball, her rodent sidekicks never did. Eager to put this right, Sibling have decreed themselves fairy godmothers: “We actually designed for the mice in Cinderella because they too should go to the ball,” they tweeted.
The final outfit is a gorgeous knitted prom dress with a giant ‘S’ on the bodice accompanied by the magical number 11:59. Topped off with sexy thigh-high socks and diamante-encrusted Hogan high tops (pictured above), Sibling have finally re-defined what it means to be Cinderella’s Sister.
The Sister by Sibling Cinderella dress will be fully revealed during the Designers of Dreams fashion show at Disneyland Paris on 23 March 2013. Stay tuned!
