Last year master shoemaker, Christian Louboutin, was asked to design a shoe for Cinderella in order to co-incide with the release of the film from the Disney vault. Given that Cinderella is synonymous with shoes and Louboutin with fairytale creations, this seemed like a match made in Fantasy Land. However, Louboutin is famous for his signature red soles, so the burning question was how he would work this into a design featuring a glass (and therefore transparent) shoe?
Well, as the sketch, above, indicated, the shoes were not actually going to made of glass. Instead, as you can see from the finished piece below, Louboutin used layers of romantic lace over tulle, embellished with crystals and butterflies, to create a delicate shoe truly worthy of Cinderella.
Sadly only twenty pairs of the Cinderella shoes were ever made and these were awarded to competition winners. You can read an account of one such lucky winner here and get a better look at the shoes.
What do you think of Louboutin’s design?
