Belle of the Ball: Hayden Panettiere Looks Like a Princess in Katharine Kidd

This weekend Hayden Panettiere was one of the many celebrities to attend the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner but she caught our eye in this gorgeous pale yellow Katharine Kidd dress, which looked like it had been plucked straight out of Beauty and the Beast!

We love seeing Disney Princess dresses come to life and this floor-length number from Kidd’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection certainly seemed to be inspired by the fairytale.

Made of pale yellow tulle with mesh inserts creating the illusion that it was sideless and strapless, the dress received mixed reviews from the press. Although on the slightly racy side for a White House dinner, the dress was age-appropriate for the 23-year old Nashville star and fitted her petite frame like a glove (and if you’re around 5ft, finding a full-length dress that doesn’t swamp you is a challenge).

Hayden completed the look with a classic up-do, red lips and an Ashlyn’d clutch.

Our favourite part of the dress is definitely the peplum/sash, which is a classic Disney design feature (also appearing on Ariel’s pink dress and Cinderella’s blue dress). A peplum like this creates a classic hourglass figure by emphasising the waist and padding out the hips, but it’s a difficult one to pull off in real life.

Southern-born Kidd makes it work because her peplum reflects the fabric gathered on the bust, a trick you can also see in a blue dress from her S/S 2012 collection, above right. And doesn’t the blue one totally remind you of Cinderella?

Let me know what you think of Hayden’s dress in the poll below!
