You know that phrase ‘more is more’? Well that’s the inspiration behind this Minnie and Mickey collection by Philipp Plein!
At least, we think it is. How else do you explain a zebra t-shirt with a crystal-encrusted Minnie Mouse print, floral border and the designer’s name tagged in big letters underneath for good measure? Or if that’s too subtle, how about a quilted leather biker jacket with a gold chain trim, topped off with gold safety pins and a giant embroidered Mickey patch with gold stars on the back?
We kid, we kid – kind of! Both those descriptions are 100% accurate but while the over the top collection is easy to, err, take the Mickey out of, it’s also totally fab. The psychadelic t-shirts are especially perfect for the summer, but prints of Minnie and her beau can be found on a variety of Philipp Plein apparel from vests and tees to scarves and track suits. These Mickey sweatpants (below) would totally brighten up our trip to the gym!
While our favourite item is definitely the leather jacket (it’s totally punk – if only we’d seen it on the red carpet at the Met Gala last week!) we prefer the slightly more understated version with gun-metal trim and a black and white Mickey print on the back. We can totally imagine rocking this baby on the back of a Harley!
German-born Philipp Plein originally started his career by designing homewear but in 2004 he turned his hand to fashion and he now specialises in an OTT Euro-style with a rock n roll edge. But as Philipp’s collaboration with Disney proves, his rock star spirit doesn’t mean he’s lost sight of his inner child!
Philipp Plein’s Spring Summer 2013 collection featuring Minnie and Mickey is out now on Philipp-Plein.com starting from around €225 and going upwards from there!
