He just can’t wait to be king!
British designer Bobby Abley put a spell on the fashion crowd last Sunday when he sent his Sword in the Stone inspired sportswear collection down the catwalk.
Showing his Spring Summer ’14 looks at London’s menswear fashion week (officially known as London Collections: Men), Abley said of his work, “My SS14 collection has medieval references from stories like the Sword in the Stone, a bit fantasy land. With each look you will find a subtle progression of a person becoming a king.”
This transition from what he calls a ‘basket-weaver’ to royalty is shown via dark fabrics and wicker-basket prints evolving into a more noble stone colours with fleur-de-lis motifs, shields and crowns. Fans of the Scarborough-born designer (which include Rita Ora) were also not surprised to see his signature Disney bird print crop up on shirts, vests and transfer tattoos alongside Abley’s teddy bear mascot, which were also turned into the cutest pastel teddy bear backpacks (they’re already on our ‘want’ list!)
Abley’s CV includes stints at outré menswear labels Alexander McQueen and Jeremy Scott but with a few more collections like this, it won’t be long before Bobby is crowned King of the Catwalk!
