Disney Street Style at Fashion Week 2014

After a whirlwind tour through New York, London, Milan and Paris, Fashion Month finally comes to an end today! And while we love looking at all the pretty dresses, we can’t say we’re not relieved to put our Mousey feet up until next season.

But before we do, let’s take a quick look through the best off-the-catwalk fashion we spotted during Fashion Month. Because sometimes the most exciting trends emerge not on the runway but on the off-duty models, celebrities and editors pounding the pavements outside the Lincoln Center and Somerset House. And this year, there was one trend that we were thrilled to see in all four fashion Meccas: Disney.

So if you need some inspiration for the most stylish way to wear a Mickey Mouse hat or a Bambi sweater, check out how the fashionistas below do it.

Marc Jacobs Mickey Sweater

This black Marc Jacobs Mickey Mouse sweater was a hit in New York! We first spotted the red version on Miley Cyrus last February (and at D23!) and we continue to be amazed at how versatile it is. Lucky Mag editor Eva Chen, left, paired the sweater with an elegant white skirt, clutch bag and strappy black shoes for a striking monochrome look while the Fashion Week attendee on the right went for a more eclectic vibe with a ruched PVC skirt, white collar and patterned bag.

Vintage Disney Graphics

If the Marc Jacobs version is too ubiquitous, your best option is probably a vintage Disney print. Model Liu Wen (top left) wore an upside down Mickey with a sleek bomber jacket and skinny jeans for a dressed down look at Milan Fashion Week while the fellow Milan Fashion Week attendee below highlighted her Pluto-print top with a yellow cross-body bag, which contrasted nicely with her green sweater, black skirt and black coat.

Meanwhile model Ming Xi (far right) looked anything but goofy in New York with her eye-popping Goofy print top, which she toned down with simple black accessories. But our favorite look by far is the Chanel-esque Mickey and Minnie embroidered jacket (center). Worn with complementary blue jeans and a cartoon-sized pussy bow blouse, this was our favorite Milan Fashion Week look of all.

Givenchy’s Spliced Bambi Print

When we saw this Bambi sweater make its runway debut at Givenchy’s AW13 show earlier this year, we knew it would be the must-have item this season. As well as being worn by Amanda Seyfriend (aka Red Riding Hood), Elle Fanning (aka Sleeping Beauty) and Carine Roitfeld (aka ex-editor of French Vogue), we spotted Snow White actress Lily Collins (above left) wearing it as a dress during the SS14 Givenchy show on Sunday. Even Kim Kardashian’s baby got a miniature version of this top during Fashion Week!

Meanwhile the print also cropped up at London Fashion Week (far right) where it was paired with a long sheer skirt, and at Paris Fashion Week (center), where it was worn on a clutch bag, adding a delicate pop of color to a romantic monochrome outfit.

Mickey Mouse Ears

We always knew mouse ears were chic but it wasn’t until we saw them at Fashion Week that we were brave enough to wear them outside of Disneyland! (And OK, we haven’t actually done it yet. But we might!). Anna Dello Russo, editor at large for Vogue Japan (far left), gave her Wednesday Addams-ish dress a lighthearted touch with her Mickey ears hat in Paris while Yuyi, far right, went for a ladylike vibe in London by pairing her pearl-encrusted version with a coral coat.

But if you’re still not convinced by giant Mickey ears (Rita Ora wasn’t), take a leaf out of model Mary Charteris’ LFW style book and go for an oversized Minnie Mouse bow instead. While our dream bow would look something like this, we still have a sweet spot for Mary’s version since it comes all the way from Tokyo Disneyland.
