Throwback Thursday: Make Like a Muppet in Jean Charles de Castelbajac

Jean Charles de Castelbajac Fall 2009 Disney 7 Kermit CoatIt’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to meet the Muppets at Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s Fall 2009 runway show in Paris!

This collection came out right around the time Kermit & co started filming The Muppets movie, which was released two years later in 2011, proving that de Castelbajac’s finger is firmly on the pulse of pop culture. And, of course, the collection proved a hit in celeb-world too, with the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry donning de Castelbajac’s designs.

But of course, there was only one person in the fashion industry whose opinion of Jean-Charles’ work actually mattered. And no, we don’t mean Anna Wintour but, instead, that porcine tub of perfection, Miss Piggy. While Miss Piggy never commented publicly on the collection (to be fair, who wants to see their boyfriend draped over some skinny blonde model) our guess is she probably would have killed for that coat.

Either way, the kooky collection continues to inspire, with Maison Mouse editor Kiki paying homage to the Kermit headbands with her hand-crafted green slippers at D23 Expo earlier this year.

But while we love Kermy, our stand-out piece is undoubtedly the Muppets-print prom dress, above, with matching elbow-length gloves. This is one time where the word ‘AMAZEBALLS’ really is the only appropriate response.

Check out lots more pics of the collection in the gallery below.
