Wedding season is fast approaching. If you’ve locked down Mr Right but are still searching for the right dress, this Cinderella-inspired bridal gown from Alfred Angelo might be for you.
Reminiscent of IRL princess Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, with its sheer long sleeves and V-shaped bodice, this version has been fashioned after the gown worn by Lily James and created by costume designer Sandy Powell for the live-action film.
While the on-screen dress, which took 16 people 550 hours to complete, was made of beige silk organza hand-painted with flowers, Angelo’s creation is opulently embroidered at the bust and hem and comes in three colour-ways: white on white, ivory on ivory and light gold with multi-coloured flowers. Like the original, though, it features long sheer sleeves and a Royal Wedding-worthy lengthy train.
“Creating the wedding dress was a challenge,” Powell said of her cinematic creation. “Rather than try to make something even better than the ball gown, I had to do something completely different and simple. I wanted the whole effect to be ephemeral and fine, so we went with an extreme-lined shape bodice with a long train.”
“Cinderella wins the Prince’s heart through her goodness, so I wanted to show this through her clothes,” she added. “I wanted her to stay modest and pure even though she was going to be a part of royalty.”
And now you can be part of royalty too!
The Cinderella dress is available in mid-April from Alfred Angelo and speciality retailers with a suggested retail price of $1899.
