If you thought you spotted Minnie Mouse walking the runway at the Chanel Cruise show in South Korea this week, you weren’t wrong – kinda.
Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld sent the French fashion brand’s models down the Seoul catwalk sporting Minnie ears fashioned out of hair, just like the ones we spotted on all the cool girls at Tokyo Disneyland a few years ago (although theirs were more fashionably messy). I rocked a pair myself last year at Disneyland in Anaheim (below).
Chanel hair stylist Sam McKnight explained: ‘Karl sent me images, photos and paintings of traditional hairstyles worn by ancient Korean nobility, and we then made 120 and black hair braids from synthetic hair dressed with beeswax to keep it in place.”
”We made different shapes, from cute Minnie Mouse ears to large triple back buns and traditionally inspired crowns, almost making them into hats which were fastened with clips and combs onto each girl’s hair.”
